Follow the family’s rhythm
Choose a time that fits your child’s usual day and keep the plan simple. A favourite book, a familiar room or a short outing may be all the activity you need. Children do not have to stay interested in the camera for the whole session to make meaningful family photographs.
Connection over performance
Sitting together, reading or sharing a small joke can be more revealing than everyone looking at the lens at once. Give children a choice about joining in, take breaks and let a parent guide what feels comfortable. For babies, a simple photograph together with a parent is plenty; elaborate poses are not the goal.
Remember the everyday details
The well-loved toy, the tiny shoes by the door and the way someone reaches for a hand can help tell the story of this stage of family life. Make a few wider photographs as well as close portraits, so the surroundings and relationships have room in the frame.
